Creative producer legend Sylvia Massy video - Recording Tips

Russell Cottier and the RecordProduction.com crew visited Edge Studios in Cheshire, UK, on a rainy day to find out about the famous recording techniques that Sylvia is known for - recording guitars through cheese and light bulbs, using hose pipe to get a different drum sound, using pianos as reverbs, old cassette recorders for interesting compression etc etc. You can watch all this on our video!

When we set off to meet Sylvia we had only legend to go by so it was a relief to meet her and find out that she's one of the nicest people that we've met. Very creative, artistic and possibly the only producer that we can think of that sits at the back of the studio on the sofa listening to the live take while painting a portrait of the band, but as dogs. Surreal.
